Pete was an emerging financial professional who struggled with self-doubt. He tortured himself with fear-based self-talk resulting in symptoms of social anxiety that led to intense impression management. Pete’s imposter syndrome and maladaptive coping mechanisms at work caused him significant chronic stress, consistent with 83% of US workers suffering from work-related stress (The American Institute of Stress, 2023).
In coaching, we utilized the Accept and Aware stages of the A+ Method™ to improve Pete’s negative self-talk, bolster his self-confidence, and cope with his fears of scarcity. Then we employed the Adapt and Assure stages of the A+ Method™ to develop flow states for repetitive tasks throughout his day, practiced initiating conversations with prospective clients, and released his perceived control over the impression of others.
As a result of coaching, Pete increased his book of business by 50% in one month and created standard operating procedures to support the influx of new clients without becoming overwhelmed. Most importantly, since Pete no longer suffered from the effects of chronic negative stress, he and his wife decided to start their family. Within one year of completing his coaching engagement, they welcomed home a new baby girl.
